The vow 'for richer for poorer' seems to be one vow couples are standing by. Only 15% of the men surveyed said they would put their purchase of engagement rings on hold as a result of the economic hardships; 85% said they would go ahead with their marriage proposals despite the credit crunch. And as well as sticking to their original plans to offer engagement rings in exchange for their partner's hand in marriage, 62% of men said they think between 1 to 3 months of their salary should be spent on engagement rings, with 10% of men saying a massive 10 months' salary should be spent on the engagement rings. And despite the economic climate and struggles, 85% of men said they would buy their engagement rings without financial assistance.

The survey into engagement rings was undertaken by a leading Jewellers. It seems despite the credit crunch and financial hardships that may lay ahead, our engagement rings are far too precious to us to compromise. Hopefully the credit crunch will last months whereas the motive behind engagement rings will last a lifetime. Engagement rings are status symbols that tell the world you are part of a couple and officially 'off the market', but engagement rings are also expressions of style and taste, a reflection of a couples' personality and status.
