Diamond rings are increasingly being spotted on the fingers of celebrities which have been valued at astronomical levels and, according to the report in the Independent, this is of little surprise given the fact that diamonds have been selling for record fees at auction in the last twelve months or so. According to the report in the Independent, the reason that diamond rings are so popular is due to the fact that diamonds themselves have such a universal appeal. Speaking to the Independent, Darren Warren of Christies, states, “A major factor is the increased demand from all around the world. We've got a lot of Russian buyers coming into the market. They are often spending a lot of money and buying diamonds for $1m or more. The markets in China and India are increasing and will help to sustain the growth. The great thing about jewellery is it is thought of as a commodity like gold and does tend to hold its value at times when the market takes a dip.”
