When it comes to engagement rings, there are some eligible bachelors the nation's women would like to propose to.
Traditionally, it's the men that do the asking and who whisk out the engagement rings. But during a leap year, the tradition flips and women get a go at proposing to their men. But it doesn't matter what year it is when it comes to certain eligible bachelors – women would queue up to ask for certain men's hands in marriage. And there are many girls dreaming of some movie star falling in love with them and whisking them away after romantically offering engagement rings, proposing marriage and eternal love. The reality may be somewhat different, but a girl can only dream....

And the waxwork museum Madame Tussauds in London understands the power of engagement rings and George Clooney. So much so, that in 2004 it created a waxwork of the actor placed at a romantic candlelit dinner table to encourage visitors to think about engagement rings and possible marriage proposals. The visitors the the museum were offered a menu of chat-up lines to try and win the heart of famous bachelor George, in the hope he'd be smitten, offer them engagement rings and proposals of marriage. And even if it was just a wax effigy of the real man, the prospect of a dinner date sat next to something that looks like a spitting image of the man himself is certainly too good to miss for some.

Eligible bachelor lists always create a flurry of media excitement, and everyone from Prince William to Michael Phelps have kept the gossip columnists in business. But the day George Clooney whisks out engagement rings will be an historic one – Clooney is famous for not being married and routinely dodges questions around the subject of settling down. The magazines are full of stories speculating on whether or not engagement rings will finally be swapped and Clooney will be taken off the most eligible bachelor list. Clooney often tops the list of People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, so it's no wonder so many women dream of swapping engagement rings with the Hollywood star.

The media interest over the Olympics has thrown up some competition for Clooney. Olympian Michael Phelps has been dubbed America's most recent eligible bachelor. Having 14 Olympic medals while embracing the single life might mean he's far too busy having fun to even consider settling down and swapping engagement rings – but there have already been rumours of romance with the former Miss California USA runner-up, Nicole Johnson.
